Main Street Art Center

Since 2008, Main Street Art Center has been bringing art, creativity and community together in downtown Union City. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the art center serves as a gallery, gift shop, learning center and gathering place, offering visitors a chance to see the work of local artists and discover handcrafted treasures like mandala mugs, suncatchers, charcuterie boards and more made by area artisans. If you’re exploring Pennsylvania’s scenic Route 6, put Union City on your itinerary for a dose of local art, history and creativity.

Want to be hands-on? Main Street Art Center’s popular open studios welcome artists of all experience levels to create in a supportive, family-friendly environment, with opportunities to weave on large looms, create mosaics and explore other creative pursuits. Workshops and classes offer instruction in basket-making, stained glass, mosaics, pottery and more, while art camps give children ages 6-14 a chance to paint, craft and create.

Artists from throughout the region make a point of stopping at the center to work, adding to the friendly, creative atmosphere that makes it more than a place to look at art — it’s a place to make it. Many of the artists involved have backgrounds in education, adding an emphasis on sharing skills and encouraging new artists.

After exploring the Art Center, continue your Union City art adventure along the PA Route 6 Public Art & Mural Trail, a collection of more than 55 murals celebrating the communities and stories along Pennsylvania’s heritage corridor. Just a short walk away at 28 S. Main St., the Union City Cultural Heritage mural pays tribute to the community’s manufacturing, milling, agricultural and recreational traditions, as well as its connection to French Creek. Whether you're collecting local artwork, discovering the town's history or simply looking for an unexpected stop along your Route 6 journey, Main Street Art Center offers an authentic glimpse into the character of Union City.

The gift shop — ranging from fine art and intricate handmade pieces to affordable jewelry and greeting cards — is a great place to discover a one-of-a-kind memento of your time along Route 6. On any given day, choose from handwoven baskets and intricate scroll-saw work to ceramics, folded-book art and locally made soaps, lotions, room sprays, sugar scrubs and other handcrafted goods.

Main Street Art Center is open Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
